Christmas decoration trends 2022

With the festive season upon us, what are the decorating trends for Christmas 2022?

Etsy has released five trends for Christmas from merry and bright hues to après ski style, so there's something to help everyone get in the mood.

According to Etsy, families are looking for inexpensive ways to stay cheerful through the cost-of-living crisis, with mood-boosting décor surging in popularity.

So, if you're looking to decorate soon, why not take inspiration from these top Christmas trends?

Merry and bright: Bright, joyful, uplifting colours are everywhere this season as people seek to spread a little cheer at Christmas and beyond. Etsy reports a 346 per cent increase in searches for disco ball décor, an 86 per cent rise in searches for vibrant wall art, and a 24 per cent search increase for colourful wreaths.

Enchanted forest: The wellbeing benefits of nature and plants is well-documented, and this trend reflects our growing desire to connect with the outside world. Etsy has seen a 118 per cent increase in searches for nature-inspired home décor - so this Christmas, embrace emerald green, midnight blue, and natural, foraged foliage.

Apres ski: If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, then this trend is for you. It’s all about bringing that cosy alpine aesthetic into your home, with chunky knits, fragranced candles, snowflake decorations and mugs of warm cocoa and mulled wine.

Pearlcore: Inspired by the return of Bridgerton and a love of all things Regency, Etsy has seen a 44 per cent increase in searches for pearl shoes and bags, and a further 31 per cent in pearl drop earrings. This will reflect in our Christmas choices, with iridescent, ethereal decorations topping the list.

Kitchen kitsch: Our new-found love of nostalgia sees us searching for retro décor and home pieces that bring back memories of old times. You can give your Christmas a kitschy, cosy vibe by choosing vintage and retro decorations – or digging out your favourites from Christmases past.
