The spotlight is on bathrooms in 2022 and, given the right treatment, the smallest room can have the biggest impact.

Here are five of the top trends for next year that will see you spending more time than ever in a room that has become an essential sanctuary.

1 Japandi

This interior hybrid of both Japanese and Scandinavian style will be everywhere next year. This new fusion creates the perfect combination of form and function, bringing together light, neutral Scandinavian chic with pared back, darker Japanese style. To get the look, bring in natural materials and plenty of plants, keep things minimal and uncluttered, use a contrast of light and dark, and layer up different textures.

2 Wet rooms

Wet rooms are making big waves in bathroom design. The simplest way to give yourself more space, creating an interior that can withstand water means you can have both a bath and shower without the need for a separate cubicle. These rooms are easy to clean and maximise floor space.

3 Freestanding basins

A bathroom can feel completely refreshed with just a few small changes. Opting for a stylish freestanding basin instead of a standard built-in sink will add character to your space, and the new trend for soft curves in interiors means basins are more organic than we’ve seen before.

4 Lighting

When turning a functional bathroom into a sanctuary, atmospheric lighting is key. LED lights are key for 2022, and can be used to highlight structural features and floating cabinets while giving a beautiful warm glow.

5 Tiles

Tiles are in, and it’s time to let your imagination run wild. Bold sizes, mismatched patterns, handmade finishes, exotic colours and shapes - anything unexpected is the way to make the biggest style statement.
